Little Eye

Doon Academy was very fortunate to be given the opportunity to have “Little Eye” perform in school.  Little Eye are an upcoming Scottish band currently touring Scottish schools with an anti- drugs message. They are supporting the anti-drugs charity DARE and have been trained by the charity to deliver the message. The band have supported Olly Murs and Alesha Dickson on tour and recently won Clyde 1 In Demand – Band of the Year.

The band performed some of their songs, delivered the anti-drugs message, with a question and answer session, and finished with an autograph session for the pupils. The main message of the band was to make the right decisions in life and to live a healthy lifestyle.

The performance was very much enjoyed by the whole school – pupils and staff!

Jazz Awards

On Wednesday 25th January, the following girls sat their Intermediate 2 Jazz module: Lisa McTaggart; Tami McLelland; Paige Collins; Fiona Kennedy; and Alana Murray.

All girls showed outstanding individual performances resulting in all girls passing. The girls had to perform several warm ups as a group and then show an individual jazz piece.

The independent adjudicator told the girls that it was the highest standard of performance she had seen from any of the schools she has visited.

Well done to everyone for all their hard work and a special mention to Alana Murray who in second year has now received an Intermediate 2 award.

Literacy Wall

The Music and Social Subjects departments are February's contributors to the Literacy Wall.

In Music S2 pupils worked in groups of four or five researching a genre of music and producing an information poster.

In Social Subjects S1 pupils learned about local government and wrote letters of complaint. In S2 pupils wrote pieces discussing the Holocaust. Another S2 group studied Mary Queen of Scots and wrote murder reports about Darnley.

The best pieces of work were written by: Chole Chalmers, Wendy Roulstone, Fallan Smith, Chole Halliday, Amy Collins, Rebekah Copeland and Katie Burrell. Congratulations to them!

Silver Band performance

Well done to pupils of the Dalmellington Silver Band Junior Section who led a Songs of Praise evening service at Straiton St Cuthbert's Parish Church.

Their music filled the historic building and was very well received by the many people who attended. This is the third time that they have played at the church and every time the congregation have been so impressed by the professionalism of the members of the band, and so uplifted by their renditions.
