FOCUS West Art visitors
As part of the FOCUS West project, two art students Ailsa and Steven, from the Glasgow School of Art have been in school working with pupils on their SQA folio work. They have also been in the art master class working with junior and senior pupils and with 3G class who are designing a mural , based on a Pop Art theme, for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

Jordanhill visit
As part of the FOCUS West project, 26 S3 pupils visited the University of Strathclyde, Jordanhill Campus, for a campus day. The pupils took part in a series of workshops designed to increase their knowledge of university life and team building skills. Everyone really enjoyed their visit and found the workshops motivating and enlightening.
University of Glasgow visit
FOCUS West Top-Up students in S5/6 visited the University of Glasgow for a seminar on note-taking and a lecture. The students found the visit very interesting, and informative.

Campus Day in Kilmarnock
27 S3 pupils attended a FOCUS West FE Campus Day
at Kilmarnock College.
The pupils took part in various team-building, leadership and college information activities. They also undertook a workshop in one of the following disciplines: motor vehicle, engineering, sports, hairdressing and beauty. Everyone really enjoyed their campus day.
Their next FOCUS activity will be a HE Campus Day at the University of Strathclyde.

Creative Industries workshops
As part of the FOCUS West project Chloe Dobson-O’Sullivan from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland visited the school and took workshops with pupils interested in a career in the Creative Industries. Pupils found the workshops very interesting and informative.

Focus West visit
The Director of the FOCUS West project Dr. Bernadette Sanderson visited Doon Academy for a tour and an update on how the project activities were progressing in the school.
Royal Conservatoire of Scotland visit
Senior pupils Leanne Waugh, Stacey Chalmers, Paige Collins, Megan McCleary and Lisa McTaggart will be attending a Dance and Drama Day at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland as part of the FOCUS West project.

Routes for all workshop
S6 pupils took part in the FOCUS West ‘Routes for all’ workshops. The activities are designed to be challenging but fun and they provide pupils with important skills for education and employment. Lecturers and university students from the University of Strathclyde also gave information; advice and guidance on practical issues relating to further and higher education. The pupils really enjoyed their day and found it very interesting and informative.

Art News
In the Art department, as part of the FOCUS West project, senior pupils are attending the Glasgow School of Art for workshops on their portfolios.
The Art Attack club will begin on Thursday 22nd September after school 2.45pm to 4.15pm. All pupils are welcome to attend.

Campus Day in Glasgow
As part of the FOCUS West project 30 S3 pupils visited the University of Glasgow for a campus day. Together with pupils from two Glasgow schools Doon’s pupils took part in a wide range of activities relating to Higher Education. Everyone had a very interesting and informative visit and pupils are looking forward to their FOCUS two day study skills course later in the year.

FOCUS West Campus Day
The FOCUS West Campus Day for S3 pupils will be held on the 12th May at the University of Glasgow. 30 S3 pupils will tour the campus and learn about life at university.

E2E Challenge
In preparation for choosing their options in 3rd year all S2 pupils undertook the FOCUS West Education to Employment (E2E) Challenge. Lecturers and students from the West of Scotland universities facilitated the programme consisting of Mapping the Future, Choosing Courses, team building and communication skills. At the S2 parents evening on the 23rd February pupils will receive their E2E certificates. Everyone enjoyed their challenges and as S2 pupil Kirsty McCormick said “It really made me think about the choices I have to make for my future”.

SaS Summer Academy
Iain Mitchell lecturer at Strathclyde University visited the school to speak to senior pupils about the Summer at Strathclyde Accelerate Programme. This programme runs for two separate weeks 27th June to 1st July and 25th to 29th July and is based around pupils’ career aspirations. There are eleven challenge areas ranging from astrophysics to sport and many pupils were keen to attend.
E2E Challenge
The S2 FOCUS West Education to Employment (E2E) Challenge will be held on Wednesday 19th January. Pupils will work with university lecturers and students on activities designed around making option choices, a faculty focus questionnaire and an E2E roadmap of their future careers.
